The Mayor and Board of Commissioners for the Town of Blowing Rock met in special called session on Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at 2 00 p.m. Present were Mayor J. B. Lawrence, Commissioners Barbara Ball, Terry Lentz, Keith Tester, Rita Wiseman, and David Wray. Also present were Town Manager Don Holycross, and Town Clerk Barbara Beach.

The purpose of the meeting was to review the proposed budget for fiscal year 2002-2003. Terry Lentz spoke to request that the Council examine the proposed budget to cut various expenditures so that the proposed tax rate could be lowered. Each member articulated his or her perception of the proposed budget. Bobby Ball agreed with Mr. Lentz’s recommendation that the proposed rate could be lowered and some long-term capital projects could be financed in other ways. Council members Tester, Wiseman, and Wray believed that the proposed rate should be left at $.35 so that monies will be available to fund capital projects that are needed.

No final action was taken on the proposed budget. The budget will be reviewed again at the public hearing scheduled for Tuesday, June 11 at 7:00 p.m.

There was no further business and the meeting was adjourned at 3:40 p.m.
