Investigation of a Fire
When a fire occurs the fire department is responsible for investigating the cause, origin and circumstances. NC General Statute Chapter 58 Article 79-1 requires this investigation whether or not there is any indication of arson.
NC General Statute Chapter 58
A fireground investigation is a systematic search of the fire scene for information about a fire. Its purpose is to reconstruct the events that led to the fire and to seek out the cause of the fire. Fire scene photographs will be taken, physical evidence will be collected and a number of sketches will be made. Because of the fragile state of physical evidence the fire scene is off limits to everyone until the Fire Chief releases the site.
