2002 Firefighter of the Year: Johnnie Gailes
The Blowing Rock Firefighter of the Year award is determined and chosen by fellow firefighters. Newcomer Johnnie Gailes was chosen and recognized for his enthusiasm to train, dedication to the department, and responding to calls. Johnnie joined the department in 2002 but has made enormous efforts to become a trained firefighter and crucial volunteer member.  Current members 20 years or more of service We would like to proudly acknowledge those members that have served 20 years or more with the Blowing Rock fire service and are still going strong. Jerry Absher serving since Jan 1975 R.L. Suddreth Serving since August 1976  Mark Bush Lindenmuth serving since Sept 1977  Stephen Sudderth serving since December 1978  Michael Wilcox serving since August 1981  Junior Firefighters For the first time in Blowing Rock’s history junior firefighters have joined the department. These two young men were the driving force behind the Junior Firefighter Program being implemented.
