After a Fire

We are only too aware of the devastation that a fire can cause. After the fire has been extinguished, cause and origin determined, the Fire Officers will thoroughly examine the building, and will advise you of any apparent structural or other defects.

Normally, the fire department will see that electricity, gas and water are either safe to use or are disconnected before they leave the site. Do not attempt to turn on utilities yourself.

Food, beverages and medicine exposed to heat, smoke, soot and water should not be consumed. See Salvage for further information on cleaning items involved in a fire.

If you are insured, contact your insurance company as soon as possible for detailed instructions on protecting the property, conducting inventory and filing a claim.
