Drought Conditions Persist
Open Burning Ban in Place

As a reminder, no burning is allowed inside the corporate limits of Blowing Rock. Due to the dry and windy conditions in western NC, there is a ban on open burning in 25 counties including Watauga and Caldwell counties. While the Town of Blowing Rock reservoir is currently in good shape, we are asking customers to voluntarily curtail their water usage since the forecast is for continued dry weather. Some ways you can cut back with minimal impact to lifestyle is to reduce outdoor watering to that necessary for plants to survive, limiting vehicle washing, and not washing down outside areas such as sidewalks and patios.

High Country Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan Update Survey

Watauga County (along with Ashe, Wilkes, and Alleghany) is part of the High Country Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan. This plan has to be in place and approved by FEMA in order for Watauga County to receive federal funding for future disasters if federal funding becomes available. Every 5 years the plan has to be updated and resubmitted to FEMA for approval. It is time to update the plan! One of the responsibilities of each county this year is to send out a survey to the general public regarding hazard mitigation. Please click here to complete the survey.
